NC Spartans High Academic Hoop Group Team
The NC Spartans High Academic Hoop Group Team is a competitive basketball program designed for high-achieving student-athletes who are committed to excellence both on the court and in the classroom. This team, comprised of rising 11th graders, competes in the Hoop Group Academic Team Circuit, a high-level basketball environment for players who demonstrate strong academic performance, character, and coachability.

The NC Spartans believe that success in basketball is strengthened by strong study habits, leadership development, and personal integrity.
Players on the High Academic Hoop Group Team are expected to maintain solid academic standing, represent their schools and families with integrity, and embrace a team-first mindset. Our coaching approach focuses on player development, basketball IQ, and character growth, creating well-rounded student-athletes prepared for future academic and athletic opportunities.

Cory Dumas
Coach Dumas brings a wealth of experience in all facets of the game, from high school to college coaching, and from his own playing career, as he takes the helm of the NC Spartans HGAL team for the 2026 season.
Coach Dumas currently serves as assistant coach for the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team, while serving as assistant coach for Davidson-Davie Community College prior to that. While at Davidson-Davie CC, Dumas helped lead the team to a first-place finish in the conference in his first season with a 35-2 record. The team would go on to finish 3rd place in the national tournament. In his second season, the team also finished first in the conference with a 31-5 record. The team reached #1 in the national JUCO rankings and later finished 6th in the national tournament.
Dumas was a former four-sport athlete (basketball, football, soccer, and track) at High Point Andrews. He later attended North Carolina A&T State University to play basketball. He graduated in 2005 with a degree majoring in Exercise Sports Science. Upon graduation, he obtained a position with the City of High Point as a Senior Lead Director in the parks and recreation department from 2006-2015. During his tenure, he mentored inner city youth, performed volunteer work with the visually impaired residents of High Point, created programs for youth and adults, served as a venue manager of cycling with Special Olympics of North Carolina, as well as the head of the annual midnight basketball program.
In 2011 Coach Dumas joined the coaching staff at Calvary Day School as assistant men’s varsity basketball coach. In 2014 he became the head men’s J.V. coach while still serving as an assistant to the varsity team as well. Coach Dumas’s team finished with a record of 20-3 and a conference record of 16-0 during the 2015-16 season.
In 2012 Coach Dumas became the head coach of the men’s 17U Triad Defenders Basketball Organization. After one year as head coach, he led the team to a second-place finish in the North Carolina USSSA state championship. In 2015 and 2016 Coach Dumas’s team won the NC State USSSA 17U Men’s Basketball State Championship. They placed 2nd as state runner-up in 2017.
In 2016 Coach Dumas began teaching Sports Medicine and Team sports at UNCG Middle College while still coaching at Calvary Day School.
In 2019 coach Dumas accepted the head men’s basketball coaching position at his former high school T. W. Andrews. In four seasons he revived the historic program from being ranked 258th in the state to finishing as the 9th and 8th ranked team in his last two seasons.
Coach Dumas is a firm believer in Philippians 4:13, that he can do all things through Christ, and he has a passion to motivate and inspire all walks of life in a positive direction.
